Education

STU22crew offers educational opportunities to middle and high school age youth and adults in the communities we serve.  For youth, we offer an interactive program developed by Hazelden Lifelines that educates youth about facts surrounding youth suicide and what their part is in peer prevention efforts.  It also addresses the need to seek help on an individual basis.  Role playing and video segments are incorporated into the learning curriculum, providing real world examples to better educated youth about suicide prevention efforts.  For youth and adults, we offer Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training, to educate on how to start a conversation with someone who might be at risk of harm, which can save a life.

If you are interested in learning more about these educational resources, or are interested in our presenting them in your organization, please contact Beth Eiken at beth@stu22crew.org

Lifelines Prevention: Building Knowledge and Skills to Prevent Suicide

Lifelines Prevention: Building Knowledge and Skills to Prevent Suicide

This first part of the Lifelines Trilogy educates middle and high school faculty, parents, and students on the facts about suicide and their roles in suicide prevention. It gives students the opportunity to learn what to do when faced with a suicidal peer through role-playing, and shows them the importance of getting help for themselves if needed. Nine included video segments depict real-world situations among peers and help bring abstract concepts into focus. Among these are interviews with recent high school graduates in a variety of educational and career paths to help students visualize what life after high school can look like. Finally, in two additional video segments for adults, Lifelines author Maureen Underwood provides coaching on vital skills in suicide prevention.

Designed for implementation in middle schools and high schools, Lifelines Prevention targets the whole school community by providing suicide awareness resources for administrators, faculty and staff, parents, and students. It fits easily into health class programming and lesson plans.

The mission of QPR is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives through  “innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training”.  As QPR Gatekeepers, we provide information on how to start a conversating with an individual that has been identified as being as risk of harming themselves, and incorporating the strategies of QPR to encourage them to seek needed help.  Asking a simple, direct question can open the doors of communication and save a life.
